Drag Tamito, a drag with her own stamp and… of height, written by @loretosocorro
Makeup artist, hairdresser, artist... Tamito is a Capricorn with natural grace and heartfelt laughter, When did you start trying your hand at the Drag Queen Gala?
Since 2012 I have been linked to the world around the Drag Queen gala, first as an extra. My step with High Heel Performance, which has brought together several drags with the same role, to make a show, contributed and continues to contribute a lot to me, in terms of learning and professional and human experience.
Play every day usually a way to keep alive creativity, Also at the carnival?
All life is play and movement. I am a very active person and I need to do a thousand things at the same time and do them well. I am very demanding of myself and those around me but without forgetting that part of a child that enjoys and plays.
What was Tamito like as a child?
Very small! -he laughs again with ember fire and, at the same time, with the freshness that only the smell of maresía gives- My best friend changed my name from Aythami to Tamito because I stopped growing and became too small. And, look, when I was twelve years old, one day I was going to perform in a hifi scale, I grabbed women's clothes and went on stage to imitate Britney Spears.
How brave! That diva that lived inside you is today a phenomenon on the platforms, although now you no longer borrow clothes...
Thanks to my mother, Pepa Fernández (@lamadredetamito), who is my great support, my hands and the magic that makes all my wardrobe come true. In this gala, designer Dani Viera and my mother have worked hard to make my fantasy shine.
At the Drag Queen Gala, Drag Tamito has to come out in eighth place and, according to numerology, eight is a very appreciated and powerful number. With eight or without eight, the result will be spectacular because he boasts of having a great team behind him.
My team is about fifteen people who support me. They are the ones who have made it a reality that the night of the gala can go on stage. They have more than three months of effort behind them that will be seen in a few minutes: design, assembly, rehearsals…. We have worked hard because the final product requires always giving our best at all times. I feel very supported by these great professionals.
Tamito, the artist in the “Carnivals of the World”, wants to surprise us and enjoy us with amazement and fun; but he also wants to try to move consciences, becoming Drag Tamito.
This year I define myself as a protester, within the Drag world, and I want to put on a good show but also take advantage of this opportunity to motivate the public to think about the things that are happening.
How are you going to do it?
With the fantasy “Every Blow, Every Wound…they have made me this diva”, which is based on the lives of two public figures, people of flesh and blood: Dita von Teese and Marilyn Manson, where she was a victim of gender violence .
As a makeup artist you are also outstanding. You have been a finalist on the television show “Make Up Stars” and you have worked with many important people, but Tamito, if you were given the opportunity to make a dream come true, tell us a historical figure who you would do makeup for…
I wish I could do Marilyn Monroe's makeup, who wouldn't?
And if you could get inside a movie...
I enjoy Sandra Bullock's movies, but the most, the most…. “Miss Special Agent.”
As for music, is there a song or singer that you never get tired of listening to?
To Ricky Martin -responds quickly and confidently-… If I could I would marry Ricky Martin himself. I have sung and danced all of his songs and I will continue to do so as long as I can. Especially the one from “Livin' La Vida Loca”…
There's less left to see the staging of this drag and its fantasy, sponsored by Perfumería Sabina.
Drag Tamito you will be browsing through beautiful fabrics, wigs, sparkles of glitter and outstanding makeup with your dance team. For all the people who are starting out and want to follow in your footsteps, what would you advise them?
I would only tell them to strive to be original, to seek their essence and stay away from copying others. This and many hours of work to make a difference. I myself wish that anyone who sees one of my makeup, or drag performances, realizes that it is something unique. I always want to tell a story and do it in such a way that it has my stamp on it.
Sal del Atlántico enjoyed a conversation with a loving and eloquent Tamito who has seduced us with his joy. Now we just have to see him at the gala and you know Tamito: “1,2,3…not even a step back…”
