The eyes of the person who photographs are the beat of the asphalt, the drowned breath of burned pine trees, the tears that mix with the tide and also the laughter of those who heal or the sigh of reunions. How small our world would be without his eyes!
In the Southeast of Gran Canaria, they have been concerned and concerned, for years, with the art that photojournalists write on a click basis, day after day. And I say art, because it is not only the image of a news item, but behind the frame, the light ... there is also a quality and a creative criterion with which to recreate ourselves.
Graphic journalists know where to look to find the exact point from which to convey the emotion of the moment and do so with an aesthetic that cannot be achieved with a mobile phone. They tell us about reality, for us and for future generations.
As a result of the interest in photography, the "Santa Lucía Photography Contest" was started and today it is integrated into the "Santa Lucía de Tirajana Photography Biennial" that began in 2017. During this III Biennial, which Held from November 18 to 27, the exhibition is presented as “Photojournalism: the image as a witness”.
It is to be applauded that at the III Santa Lucía Photography Biennial, homage is paid to the sadly disappeared Nono Castro -Antonio González Martel-, a professional who worked and trained many amateurs and professionals of photography.
In addition to the well-deserved tribute to Nono Castro, the work of Borja Suárez and that of Yaiza Socorro (photojournalists) will be awarded. Borja Súarez currently works at the Reuter Agency and Yaiza Socorro is immersed in the publication of the digital magazine "Sal de Atlántico", together with two of her sisters, and will present this project on Thursday, November 25 at 18:30 p.m. at the Victor Theater Jara de Vecindario.
Since the Biennial, under the direction of the curator Megui Hernández, they have prepared a varied program for us where the art of photography approaches adolescent students in the area through people like Elia Verona and Sonsoles León, who with the project “La piel he has his reasons ”, they combine poetry and photography. Sara Yun will bring photography closer to the little ones in a photography workshop for families.
There will be no shortage of areas prepared to delight the eye and the imagination with exhibitions in different areas of Vecindario (Santa Lucía de Tirajana). To highlight the collective exhibition "Cenizas", from the Canarian perspective on solidarity with the island of La Palma and "Everything is true", the exhibition project by Rafael Arocha.
A very interesting training is offered where you can learn with the Masterclass of professionals such as Carlos López and Juanjo Pérez about color management for photographers.
The practical workshops that have been offered for this occasion are those of "Lighting in photography" by Pablo Sola and "Analogue photography and digital printing" taught by Manuel García Núñez and where a trip is made that goes from yesterday developed from the negative to the actual scan.
Very modern are, without a doubt, Irene Cruz's workshops “Criptoarte” and “Social networks for photographers”.
Talks, round tables, presentations of different works and projects related to photography. A space and a time for reflection and enjoyment is what the III Santa Lucía Photography Biennial gives us on these dates when knowing where to look is more important than being able to see.
