We spoke with Borja Unsaín, to learn more about the spell that bewitched him in the visual arts from an early age. Family roots, energies that magnetized him to the blank paper to create stories that then continued in his head when he went to sleep.
What is Borja Unsain like?
Greetings to all who have come here and read me. My name is Borja Unsain and from an early age I have been enchanted by the enchantment of the plastic arts. I don't know to what extent there was suggestion from the artistic roots of the family or what kind of magnet attracted me to those blank pages.
The reality is that I had a great time developing the stories that I created in my head and then continued when I went to sleep. In some way or another, art has forged my way of being, conditioning the decisions I have made throughout my life.
Nor do I know if I consider myself an artist, I think there is a half debate on whether graphic designers are considered artists or not. Our works serve the market and nothing else. They are not exhibited in galleries as works of art. However, there is no doubt that they are one more discipline in the art world.
What is visual communication Borja?
Visual communication is governed by logic, some keys in its construction that help a message reach a receiver so that he understands it perfectly and clearly. The basic rules are those of repetition, contrast, alignment and proximity. All elements have a connection with the rest of the elements of the image.
By following these rules, we achieve harmony and clarity when communicating our message, whether to sell a product, express what we feel or guide an audience through a certain venue, for example. I can tell you about my experience where in a theme park I was in the process of improving the signage within the park.
Where in a point of the route that crossed with other roads there was a lot of confusion on the part of the visitors. In this example, visual communication prevented us from having to put a permanent worker all day explaining the correct path to visitors.
Visual Communication: Repetition. Contrast. Alignment. Proximity.
What is graphic design?
Graphic design from my point of view and recognizing that I do not have a clear concept of it. I would tell you that it is the craftsmanship created by graphic design professionals to serve the interests of clients. It can also serve personal interests such as a student presenting his thesis with a well-cared graphic design works for him in order to get better grades.
The normal thing is that the focus is on the professional field. Therefore graphic design in the end are resources that the professional obtains in the form of photographs, vectors, textures and other resources that he creates or buys them and with that creates a creativity that helps clients earn more money. Since graphic design is usually closely linked to marketing. We are a very powerful tool for the marketing department in companies. The first contact that the public has with the company goes through us. We are like the wheels of the car. The only element of the vehicle that is in contact with the ground. The analogy here would be people of course this.
Graphic Design: Resources that are obtained or created.
